case study of The Dark Knight Rises and Superbad

By looking at The Dark Knight Rises poster we can tell that this film is an action/superhero movie by the use of fire, explosions and the iconic image of batman, who is a famous superhero. The poster also has the names of lots of famous movie stars and the release date also indicates that this film with be a big blockbuster film because it will be shown in the summer when people are off school. The film is a 12A which mean a wide audience.

The trailer for this film uses many different devices to engage with a specific audience. Such as the frequent use of showing action sequences and explosions this helps to attract an action film audience.
We can tell that this is an American blockbuster movie because of the use of showing the production company logos at the beginning of the trailer. Also the batman series is a huge franchise now and in the trailer contains the famous batman logo. Also this film contains many big stars and there names are all in the trailer.

This film is an independent film. We can tell this by the way that the poster uses a quote from MAXIM which is a men’s magazine. This also helps give a representation that the film is aimed at men. Also the quote helps to promote the film and indicates that the film is a comedy. The film doesn’t have any major film stars in it this shows that its an independent film. Also the poster says that the film was written by the same people as other successful films.

In the trailer for Superbad we can can tell that it is an independent film by the use of associated market by saying that the production company has made other famous films. Also it shows the logo for the production company. The trailer confirms that the film is a comedy. But doesn’t reveal much of the plot but does however convey that this film is a teen movie.
